Centre of the Earth

Why a Journey to the Centre of the Earth?

Half way to the center of the earth in 10 years

The journey started from a need to quantify our experience. At the time, we had reached 3.2 million metres (now over 3.5 million) of surveyed boreholes and we were curious on possible visual representations.

The DGI Journey

Our particular version of the journey to the centre of the earth had great features that many of us at DGI liked:

  • The Journey to the Centre of the Earth is a great adventure novel by Jules Verne
  • We’re connected to that same sense of adventure by travelling and working in some of the most remote places in Canada and around the world
  • It’s a great beginning point to explain geology and geophysics to children (including our own)
  • When we get to the centre, it will be an ideal opportunity to celebrate with our clients, partners, friends, and families
  • The challenges (including minimizing risks) and the application of physical rock properties in geotechnical engineering and rock mechanics for deep mining are areas of significant interest to DGI and our clients
  • DGI will be attending RockEng 2012 as part of the CIM National event in Edmonton, Alberta (May 2012)
